It’s Race Season! Zobha at Napa Valley Marathon. Finish Line Style.

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

Latest update from Alena – Our Zobha Guru:

On March 3rd I completed my first marathon and could not be more excited about this accomplishment.

This year’s Napa Valley Marathon was one to remember. Unlike previous years, the weather was picture perfect and the landscape was breathtaking with lush rolling hills covered with vineyards, mustard fields for miles and farm life around every corner.

The Napa Valley Marathon had a sold-out a field of 2,600 runners and women comprised 51 percent of the 2013 Napa Valley Marathon race field, which was a race record.

The 26.2 mile course began at 6:59AM in Calistoga and finished in the heart of Napa. I ran very conservatively early in the race, picked up my pace at Mile 19 and crossed the finish line with a finishing time of 4 hours and 14 minutes.

In preparation for the marathon, I carefully selected my Zobha outfit because I knew being comfortable and equipped would make all the difference.

The Endurance Tank was the perfect race tank because it has two hidden zippers, which worked great for carrying my CLIF SHOT Gels. The fit, fabric and design of this tank allowed me to run gracefully without adjusting or getting distracted by the items in my pockets.

The Hot Short also proved to be the best bottoms I could have selected. The performance fabric kept me cool while I sweat and the style lines kept my curves securely in place as I ran the course.

These two Zobha styles were hands down the best styles I could have chosen to run in that day and I felt great crossing the finish line in style!

I look forward to running the San Diego Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon on June 2nd and I am confident I will get my time down to 3 hours and 32 minutes and qualify for the Boston Marathon in 2014.

Stay tuned. I look forward to sharing more details about my next marathon in June!

FRESH AIR AND TRENDS. BEHIND THE SCENES WITH EMERALD GREEN.

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Our Spring Collection is unique, beautiful and vibrant.  See the below interview with the Zobha Designers to learn more about our gorgeous Emerald Green and where the inspiration came from in developing this rich color.

What is unique about Zobha’s Emerald?

A: Zobha’s Emerald has a beautiful jewel tone.  It’s sophisticated, but also has a vibrancy and energy to it that is perfect for yoga and athletic wear.

What inspired you to develop Emerald?

A: We were very inspired by a sense of introspection and self-reflection for the season, resulting in the desire for calm, beautiful colors to ground our palette.  We really felt the depth and richness of Emerald personified this.

How would you describe your spring color inspiration board?

A: Our color inspiration board for this season was a medley of gorgeous colors.  We had beautiful bright pops, flirty pastels and richer colors, like Emerald.

Do you think Emerald is on-trend for spring?

A: Emerald is definitely on-trend for Spring.  We are seeing it everywhere on the runway, in new store collections and blogs.

What other colors can Emerald be combined with?

A: Emerald is the perfect color to pair with a softer color of the same hue, like Capri, for a beautiful, calm tonal feel.  It’s also sits so well with our fresh Violet Ice and bright Citron colors – you can see this vibrant color combo in our Belize print.

HYDRATION INFATUATION

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

We love sharing tips from Michelle Lovitt, Zobha brand ambassador and trainer to the stars! Every time we talk to Michelle she emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and making sure you’re drinking enough water before, during, and after your workout. This is an especially important tip for runners, or anyone that is burning a lot of calories through sweat in their workout, but the truth is, we all need to make sure we’re getting enough water and staying hydrated!

The human body is made up of about 60% water. It’s no wonder we need so much of it! Drinking adequate amounts of water is critical for our bodies to function properly.

Being properly hydrated also helps the body use more fat during aerobic exercise. If you are exercising to burn fat, be sure to consume at least 64 ounces of water per day, plus an additional 16 ounces for every hour of moderate-intensity. Fat is excreted primarily through urine, sweat, and carbon dioxide when released in the air from your lungs. If dehydrated, the body isn’t efficient at excreting the fat from the body.

UNLEASH YOUR INNER BOXER

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Zobha brand ambassador and celebrity trainer, Michelle Lovitt, offers these tips for the aspiring boxers of the world.

  • JUMP ROPE: When you’re boxing, you need to have good stamina along with the ability to move your feet quickly. Jumping rope helps you condition your body while improving your footwork. Wear comfortable shorts and a moisture wicking top to get the most out of jumping rope.
  • LEARN THE JAB: Start by learning the jab. Work on it every day; the front of your shoulder will be sore, but that’s the price you have to pay to get better! Proper attire is also critical to performance in boxing. Avoid restrictive clothing, as the ability to effectively box is hampered when the legs are restricted from complete movement. The goal with wearing these clothes is to facilitate mobility.

TONE YOUR ARMS WITH VINYASA. YOGA TIPS TO GET YOU TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

If you’re looking to tone your arms, a good Vinyasa flow is just what you need! Here is a simple flow that will work your arms and you can do it from the comfort of your own home!

  • Start in mountain pose. Take a deep breath in and deep exhale
  • On your exhale, bend at the waist and go into a forward fold. Take a deep breath
  • Exhale and step back into plank position, grounding your hands shoulder-width apart on your mat
  • From here go into chaturanga; lower yourself down from plank, keeping your arms next to your body (don’t let your elbows bow out) and flow into upward dog
  • Hold yourself in upward dog for 1 cycle of breath and on your exhale, tuck your toes under and push yourself up to downward dog
  • Repeat the cycle

To increase the workout you get in your arms, hold yourself in plank for 30 second intervals and then really concentrate on slowly lowering your body down to the mat.

Remember to always breathe through every movement and listen to your body – it’s up to you to monitor when you’re pushing yourself too far verses pushing yourself to the next level in your practice.

Check out our new Mat Mates activity section to find perfect styles for yoga and pilates.

Here are some of our favorites!

  • Booty Burner – Keeps you cool with the bare cut, and cool performance fabric technology.
  • Spirit Bra - Gives you versatility with lingerie-inspired straps and comfortable support with lightweight and regular performance fabric.  Ruched under the armhole for ease in movement.
  • Draped Low Impact Tank - Has a regular performance bra for support and a blousy silhouette with lightweight performance fabric. This is where fashion meets function.

Run Farther, Faster and Better. Tips from Celebrity Trainer, Michelle Lovitt.

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Zobha’s brand ambassador and trainer to the stars, Michelle Lovitt, believes the right clothes can make a difference in your workout performance. By having Zobha as Michelle’s go-to brand, she  helped  put together the Runner’s Survival Kit – 4 essentials for any avid runner:

The Runner’s Legging: Having the right running leggings can make a world of difference, especially in the cold months to help you run farther, faster and better! The Zobha Runner’s Legging was made for high impact performance. It has contrast mesh panels at the ankle and hip for added support and moisture wick technology will keep you dry and comfortable no matter how far you’re running.

The Cadence Bra: This is a favorite amongst the female runners on the Zobha team. The Cadence Bra offers maximum support without putting any strain on your shoulders leaving you free to run as long as your heart desires!

Reflective Tape: If you’re an avid runner, chances are you find yourself running in the dark every now and again. Having reflective tape is really important to keep you safe from unsuspecting drivers. (And who doesn’t like to glow in the dark.)

Armband for your iPod/MP3 Player: This is a debatable one, but decided to keep it on here since we’re divided 50/50. Some people don’t like to listen to music while they run, but if you do, having an armband for your music player is key! It keeps it out your way and allows your hands and arms to move naturally with your stride.

You’ve got the inside tips from celebrity trainer, Michelle Lovitt, now hit the road!

5 TIPS TO UP YOUR RUNNING GAME

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Running is one of the most basic forms of exercise – as long as you have a pair of running shoes and a road (or treadmill, or trail, or beach, …) you can go running and get a good workout in!

Here are a few tips on how to stay motivated and maximize your running workout:

  • Accept the Challenge: Sign up for a race – whether it’s a 5K or a marathon, it doesn’t matter. Having a goal and deadline to train toward will help keep you motivated.
  • Get the right Gear: If you’re running often, it’s worth investing in a good pair of running pants. The compression capri from Zobha are engineered to increase blood flow and mesh paneling lends added support.
  • Jam Sessions: Make a killer playlist to listen to while you run. When you think you can’t go any further, coax yourself to make it through 2 more full songs and run your heart out!
  • Plan Your Route: Giving yourself a set route (and distance) will help you to stick to your goals. With sites like mapmyrun.com out there its super easy to enter your start and end points and figure out a good route in your area.
  • STRETCH, STRETCH, STRETCH!: We cannot stress this enough – getting a good stretch in before and after you go running is crucial! It’s easy to pull a muscle when you’re giving it your all. Be sure to get a good stretch in your legs, calves and feet before heading out.

I hope you’ve found these tips helpful. If you have any questions or tips of your own share them in the comments section below.

TIPS TO GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HIGH INTENSITY WORKOUTS

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Whether it’s Cross Fit, Boot Camp, TRX, or some other high impact routine you’re grooving on these days, we wanted to provide you with some expert tips on how to maximize your workout.

Zobha brand ambassador and trainer to Hollywood A-listers such as Courteney Cox, Mary Louise Parker, and Jason Statham, let us in on some of her secrets she uses when training the stars. Check them out:

  • The keys to any success in weight loss are cardio, nutrition, hydration and strength. Hydration is key, in order to metabolize fat efficiently while working out so it is critical to be hydrated.
  • Your Heart Rate
is the key to exercising at the right intensity (heart rate zone) to meet your fitness goals. If you exercise regularly but are aiming to lose body fat, exercise at 60-85 percent of maximum heart rate. Build up to an hour long workout of continuous exercise. Courteney achieved this through interval training on the treadmill where she would walk and run while keeping her heart rate in the “fat burning zone” for 60 minutes.
  • Aim for 20-60 minutes of continuous exercise incorporating intervals in your target zone each session.
  • Just getting started in the high impact sports? Studies show that people who exercise at too high of an intensity, especially in the initial stages of their program, drop out sooner, have more injuries, and tend to develop a negative impression towards exercise in general. If necessary start in a low exercise intensity zone and build up.

Hope these tips are helpful! If you have specific questions for Michelle Lovitt leave them in the comments section and we’ll get back to you!
