HYDRATION INFATUATION

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

We love sharing tips from Michelle Lovitt, Zobha brand ambassador and trainer to the stars! Every time we talk to Michelle she emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and making sure you’re drinking enough water before, during, and after your workout. This is an especially important tip for runners, or anyone that is burning a lot of calories through sweat in their workout, but the truth is, we all need to make sure we’re getting enough water and staying hydrated!

The human body is made up of about 60% water. It’s no wonder we need so much of it! Drinking adequate amounts of water is critical for our bodies to function properly.

Being properly hydrated also helps the body use more fat during aerobic exercise. If you are exercising to burn fat, be sure to consume at least 64 ounces of water per day, plus an additional 16 ounces for every hour of moderate-intensity. Fat is excreted primarily through urine, sweat, and carbon dioxide when released in the air from your lungs. If dehydrated, the body isn’t efficient at excreting the fat from the body.

Run Farther, Faster and Better. Tips from Celebrity Trainer, Michelle Lovitt.

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Zobha’s brand ambassador and trainer to the stars, Michelle Lovitt, believes the right clothes can make a difference in your workout performance. By having Zobha as Michelle’s go-to brand, she  helped  put together the Runner’s Survival Kit – 4 essentials for any avid runner:

The Runner’s Legging: Having the right running leggings can make a world of difference, especially in the cold months to help you run farther, faster and better! The Zobha Runner’s Legging was made for high impact performance. It has contrast mesh panels at the ankle and hip for added support and moisture wick technology will keep you dry and comfortable no matter how far you’re running.

The Cadence Bra: This is a favorite amongst the female runners on the Zobha team. The Cadence Bra offers maximum support without putting any strain on your shoulders leaving you free to run as long as your heart desires!

Reflective Tape: If you’re an avid runner, chances are you find yourself running in the dark every now and again. Having reflective tape is really important to keep you safe from unsuspecting drivers. (And who doesn’t like to glow in the dark.)

Armband for your iPod/MP3 Player: This is a debatable one, but decided to keep it on here since we’re divided 50/50. Some people don’t like to listen to music while they run, but if you do, having an armband for your music player is key! It keeps it out your way and allows your hands and arms to move naturally with your stride.

5 TIPS TO UP YOUR RUNNING GAME

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Running is one of the most basic forms of exercise – as long as you have a pair of running shoes and a road (or treadmill, or trail, or beach, …) you can go running and get a good workout in!

Here are a few tips on how to stay motivated and maximize your running workout:

  • Accept the Challenge: Sign up for a race – whether it’s a 5K or a marathon, it doesn’t matter. Having a goal and deadline to train toward will help keep you motivated.
  • Get the right Gear: If you’re running often, it’s worth investing in a good pair of running pants. The compression capri from Zobha are engineered to increase blood flow and mesh paneling lends added support.
  • Jam Sessions: Make a killer playlist to listen to while you run. When you think you can’t go any further, coax yourself to make it through 2 more full songs and run your heart out!
  • Plan Your Route: Giving yourself a set route (and distance) will help you to stick to your goals. With sites like mapmyrun.com out there its super easy to enter your start and end points and figure out a good route in your area.
  • STRETCH, STRETCH, STRETCH!: We cannot stress this enough – getting a good stretch in before and after you go running is crucial! It’s easy to pull a muscle when you’re giving it your all. Be sure to get a good stretch in your legs, calves and feet before heading out.

TIPS TO GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HIGH INTENSITY WORKOUTS

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Whether it’s Cross Fit, Boot Camp, TRX, or some other high impact routine you’re grooving on these days, we wanted to provide you with some expert tips on how to maximize your workout.

Zobha brand ambassador and trainer to Hollywood A-listers such as Courteney Cox, Mary Louise Parker, and Jason Statham, let us in on some of her secrets she uses when training the stars. Check them out:

  • The keys to any success in weight loss are cardio, nutrition, hydration and strength. Hydration is key, in order to metabolize fat efficiently while working out so it is critical to be hydrated.
  • Your Heart Rate
is the key to exercising at the right intensity (heart rate zone) to meet your fitness goals. If you exercise regularly but are aiming to lose body fat, exercise at 60-85 percent of maximum heart rate. Build up to an hour long workout of continuous exercise. Courteney achieved this through interval training on the treadmill where she would walk and run while keeping her heart rate in the “fat burning zone” for 60 minutes.
  • Aim for 20-60 minutes of continuous exercise incorporating intervals in your target zone each session.
  • Just getting started in the high impact sports? Studies show that people who exercise at too high of an intensity, especially in the initial stages of their program, drop out sooner, have more injuries, and tend to develop a negative impression towards exercise in general. If necessary start in a low exercise intensity zone and build up.

Hope these tips are helpful! If you have specific questions for Michelle Lovitt leave them in the comments section and we’ll get back to you!

3 Tips to Finding a Workout Class That Suits You

Saturday, December 8th, 2012

Hello Friends of Zobha,

If you’re anything like me, you know how hard it can be to find a workout class that motivates you and keeps you coming back for more. I have tried a ton of different classes but even after I find the type of workout I want to do, I wind up trying a number of different instructors before landing on the one that’s right for me. As a result I have found myself getting in a rut and not trying new workouts. To keep myself going I have put together a short list of to-do’s before I sign up for a new class! Hopefully these can help others experiencing the same struggle:

  1. Prior to signing up, research your options online or on Yelp. This way you can get a gist of what students have experienced in the past including the good, the bad, and the ugly.
  2. Make sure to look into whether or not there’s any prep work needed upon arrival. For example, if they prefer you to show up to class 10 minutes early, this would be the perfect time to call ahead and check!
  3. Last but not least, make sure to pick a class that suits your fitness level. From yoga classes to boot camps, this ensures you know what you’re getting yourself into!

Hopefully these tips will help end your tiring and strenuous search for the perfect class.  As for now, what’s the latest workout class you’ve taken?  We want to know!
